Kota Efesus

Efesus adalah sebuah kota kuno taraf internasional. Terletak pada muara Kaistros di Asia Kecil. Sejak tahun 133 sebelum Masehi menjadi pusat propinsi Romawi di Asia. Kenisah dewi Artemis dengan arca dewi itu termasuk bilangan mujizat dunia sejak dari zaman kuno (Kisah Para Rasul 19:35)
Dalam Kisah Para Rasul 19:35 bagian yang terakhir, dikatakan bahwa para masyarakat Efesus percaya jika patung dewi Artemis turun dari langit, padahal patung-patung tersebut dibuat oleh para tukang-tukang, coba lihat di Kisah Para Rasul 19:24-25.

Di kota Efesus, dipercaya sebagai kota untuk dewi Artemis bahkan mistik yang menyebar di masyarakat kota ini sudah menjadi sangat kuat dan sangat mendalam, bahkan bisa saja dikatakan bahwa hampir sebagian penduduknya adalah tukang-tukang sihir, dibuktikan dalam pembakaran kitab-kitab sihir yang bernilai super mahal dan super banyak di Efesus. Tempat yang terkenal di Efesus adalah kuil dewi Artemis yang mahabesar.
Dewi Artemis adalah dewi orang-orang Efesus yang kemudian disamakan dengan dewi Artemis orang Yunani dan Diana dari Romawi. Patungnya berupa sebuah tubuh yang berbuah dada banyak dan berkepala seorang wanita, dengan sebongkah batu besar sebagai ganti kaki.Efesus memiliki populasi sejumlah lebih dari 250.000 orang pada abad ke-1 SM, yang ketika itu menjadikannya sebagai kota terbesar kedua di dunia. Asal mula kota ini tidak pernah diketahui, tetapi dalam abad kedelapan SM ia merupakan wilayah pemukiman yang menonjol dan sudah lama diambil alih oleh bangsa Yunani.
